Internationaal Gamelan Festival Amsterdam (IGFA2010)
The International Gamelan Festival Amsterdam (IGFA2010) presents music and dance from Indonesia, different world premieres and the absolute top from Java and Bali.

After its very successful first edition, the second International Gamelan Festival Amsterdam (IGFA2010) will be held from 2 to 11 September 2010. The IGFA2010 consists of two principal parts: Opera Java (2 to 5 September) and three gamelan presentations from Java and Bali (9, 10 and 11 September), performed in the monumental Light Hall of the Tropenmuseum.

Specially commissioned by the Tropentheater, the remarkable Indonesian film director Garin Nugroho now directs 'Opera Java', a spectacular music theatre adaptation of his film 'Opera Jawa' (2006). This will have its world premiere at IGFA. The three gamelan presentations involve both traditional and modern performances, which include new gamelan music inspired by compositions from the American composer Steve Reich.
