City of Amsterdam introduces Green IT programme 

Amsterdam is home to the AMS-IX, the largest internet hub in the world and one of the reasons why ICT companies are attracted to the Amsterdam Area.

The Green IT consortium was set up to enhance synergy in the world of ICT and create new projects with the associated companies.

Green IT programme

The City of Amsterdam has joined forces with the IT sector to introduce the Green IT programme. More than just making the sector more energy efficient in general, Green IT Amsterdam also aims to change mobility patterns, explore the use of sustainable energy sources and improve energy efficiency in houses and offices.

  • 90% of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area’s businesses and homes have internet
    access.

  • The fibre optic network has 43,000 connections to date.

  • By 2015, the region will boast 450,000 broadband connections.

  • The Amsterdam Internet Hub (AMS-IX) is the world’s largest and most stable digital exchange platform. It’s also known for its superior quality and low costs.

  • The high rate of connectivity means a booming IT, media and creative sector
