The first Smart Work Center (SWC) in the Netherlands has opened in Almere. The SWC is a state-of-the-art working environment for individuals and groups, in which workspaces are combined with a range of on-site facilities such as childcare and meeting rooms.
Through the intelligent use of ICT technologies from companies such as Cisco, the SWC promotes flexible working and productivity, reducing travel costs and CO2 emissions.
The SWC in Almere is the first of a series of such centres opening in the Netherlands. Hewlett Packard (HP), IBM, and the City of Amsterdam are the first organisations to use the Smart Work Center.
The Smart Work Center is an initiative of the Cisco Company in Amsterdam and stems from collaboration with the cities of Amsterdam and Almere. The goal is to reduce traffic congestion and CO2 emissions.
The majority of the population of Almere commutes, every morning and evening, to and from the workplace. 'Smart working' provides a more efficient use of time and labour, as well as making the all-important reduction in CO2 emissions. With its Smart Work Center, Almere has taken a major step towards living and working sustainably in the city.
