The City of Amsterdam and the Dutch Railway (Nederlandse Spoorwegen, NS) have revealed their ambitious plans for the renovation of the Amsterdam Central Station.
Amsterdam Central Station is the largest public transportation hub in the Netherlands. From here approximately 300,000 passengers per day come and go by bus, tram, metro or train. The island on which Central Station is situated will be renovated and modernised to prepare it for a bright future.
For many visitors, Amsterdam Central Station is their gateway to and first impression of Amsterdam and the Netherlands.
Thanks to the excellent transport services the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area has in place, the rest of the world is never far away. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, one of Europe's top airports, is just 15 minutes from the city centre. That is as great for keeping in touch with family and friends as it is for work. Trains, sea and road connections are as equally reliable. By train, Antwerp, Brussels and Paris are within easy reach. For expats, Amsterdam is a great base to explore the whole of Europe.
The new Amsterdam Central Station will be an even better way to get around comfortably. The renovations will include building two passage ways with shops and will be accessible to travellers as well as other visitors. Furthermore, the transfer capacity of the station will be improved making the network of public transport even more efficient. There will be more room for trams and a bike and pedestrian tunnel will be built.
All in all the plans will enhance the accessibility of the Amsterdam Area, which contributes to the attractiveness of the area for businesses, inhabitants and tourists. Watch the video preview of Amsterdam Central Station.
