PICNIC: Cross Media Creativity in Amsterdam

September (23-25) sees what will be the fourth Amsterdam PICNIC, a “high-level plenary meeting of bright, creative minds” that brings media entrepreneurs, thinkers and creators together to share their stories with more than 1,000 delegates from all over the world.

Technology, talent, and tolerance

Ever since Richard Florida published The Rise of the Creative Class in 2004 it has been the bible-of-choice for urban planners the world over looking to make their city hip, modern and successful by promoting the “3 T’s of economic growth—technology, talent, and tolerance.”

Amsterdam’s ‘3 Ts’

To emphasise the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area’s ‘3 T’s and create a more sustaining 21st century business climate, the Cross Media Week Foundation was established four years ago, and launched PICNIC, a fun-packed 3-day snapshot of the ideas and people who are making it happen.

Unique annual get-together

This unique festival has been packed with quirky surprises, cutting-edge technology experiences. With its uniquely cool, friendly and open environment, PICNIC is designed to educate and connect people, industries, sectors and disciplines, and stimulate creativity, innovation, inspiration and business.

High-level conference

PICNIC is also an inspiring, high-level conference, with world-class keynote speakers. Along with another 50 top-notch minds, they’ll be bringing great ideas to an audience of leading creatives and innovation professionals in business, technology, new media, entertainment, science and the arts.

The conference will cover a wide variety of topics under three key narratives:
Exploding Media: showcases the latest changes in media technologies with a special focus on gaming, connectivity and real-time social media; the latest innovations and disruptions that the creative industries are facing, the emerging opportunities and business implications that these changes will bring.

The Next Economy: will be rethinking the economy, society and life. The world is going through profound changes that are impacting our societies and economies deeply. Community collaboration, the future of money, the sharing economy, the green economy, and the emerging societal aspects of the digital culture will be featured, along with the Postcode Lottery Green Challenge.

Life in Motion: mobile phones are the most personal devices in our lives, empowering billions of people, to connect, transact and communicate. The future of Internet will be mobile, always with us, in our pockets, location and content aware, loaded with intelligent features - our personal digital connector and communicator, and a powerful media channel.
