The Netherlands are followed by Luxembourg (87 percent), Sweden (86 percent), and Germany (79 percent). Great Britain (77 percent) is 7th best connected and France (63 percent) 13th with the EU average at 65 percent..

Leading in web usage

Also with web usage, the Netherlands score highest. Almost three quarters of the population use the web on a daily basis with usage amongst young people (age 16-24), at 90 percent.

Nowhere citizens use the web more fanatically for their daily shopping, banking, and news gathering. In comparison, in France only half of the population use the web daily. In Germany it is 55 percent and in Great Britain 60 percent.

Amsterdam's high-speed fibre optic network

Initiatives within the Amsterdam area, will assure the Netherlands’ leading position in the coming years. This region already has one of the world’s highest broadband concentrations and has given rise to a strong digital sector. By 2015, the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area will see every business and household connected to a high-speed fibre optic network.

For businesses, the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area’s advanced and rapidly developing digital infrastructure is a unique opportunity to test new services and products.
