Almere’s newest industrial park is underlining the credentials of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area as a centre of logistics operations as a number of new companies begin taking up residency in September.
The Stichtsekant is a 130 ha. site, zoned for high-tech, logistics and general industrial purposes designed as a successor to the city’s Sallandsekant.
The current phase (1B) specifically targets providers of logistics services, wholesalers and distribution centres in, or coming to, the Amsterdam Area and anticipating making heavy use of Schiphol and/or the Amsterdam port.
ModoVanGelder, Grafisch Papier and Dekker Packaging are bringing all their logistics operations under one roof in the Stichtsekant.
The 29,000 m2 complex will be the biggest and most modern paper and packaging distribution centre in the Netherlands.
ModoVanGelder will take occupancy in September and the logistics activities of Grafisch Papier will move in November and Dekker Packaging at the end of the year.
Besides a distribution centre for the three companies (which will operate under their own identities), the offices of ModoVanGelder and Dekker Packaging will be located in the new building.
The French company Geodis, one of the largest logistics providers in Europe, will move into new 17,000 m2 premises on the Stichtsekant later in the year.
The hyper-modern logistics centre will employ around 80 people and handle logistics for various customers, including Prénatal.
Stichtsekant is being developed for long-term use with an accent on the efficient use of space, quality and permanence.
It has already been awarded national model status for landscape design by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Dutch Association for Garden and Landscape Architecture.
Measures to achieve this include a spatial planning regime that prescribes strict physical quality standards of the built environment and the environmental impact of activities, and use of the latest insights and materials in environmentally sustainable building.
Situated alongside the A27, next to the Stichtse Bridge, by car the centres of Utrecht and Amsterdam can respectively be reached within 20 and 30 minutes, and Schiphol Airport is only 30 minutes away.
As part of the Almere Fiber City initiative, which aims to offer every business and home a 100 Mb/s Internet connection, the Stichtsekant has been fitted with a glass fibre network.
A planned facility point will offer a range of services to companies that settle on Stichtsekant.
Apart from a gas station, other possible facilities include meeting rooms, shops, a hotel, catering, on site financial services, a post office, printing services, dry cleaning and a crèche.
