Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was among the winners of the 23rd edition of the annual Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA) ceremony in Hong Kong on 22 April 2009.
The award adds to Schiphol's track record of international popularity, following awards by both the American Executive Travel and UK's Business Traveller magazines.
More than 12,500 readers of Cargonews Asia were polled online and voted Schiphol 'Best Airport Europe' for the 16th time and 'Best Air Cargo Terminal Europe' for the 11th time.
Cargonews Asia is one of Asia's most prominent logistics trade journals, and the AFSCA event - also known as the 'Shippers Choice Awards' - is one of the highlights of the Asian freight industry calendar and highly respected in the Far East.
The Port of Rotterdam, Europe's most important seaport for trade with Asia, was also honoured, winning the award for 'Best Port in Europe' for the 23rd time.
Schiphol
was awarded the prizes due to the high quality and innovative character of its cargo facilities, the efficiency of its cargo transfer
process and its reliability as a business partner.
Air cargo transport to and from Asia is very important for the airport and the surrounding Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. In 2008, 718,100 tonnes of cargo were transported to and from Asia, or 46% of the airport's total cargo volume.
