Amsterdam’s Pindakaas ad agency hosted a reception on 23 April to celebrate the announcement that one of the premier awards for Europe’s creative advertising industry will be held in Amsterdam this year. Now in its 2nd year, the Eurobest Festival will take place from 25-27 November in the historic Beurs van Berlage, providing three days of focus and debate for the European advertising and communications industry.
The Festival is organised by the International Advertising Festival, the team behind Cannes Lions and the Dubai International Advertising Festival, in conjunction with the Dutch Advertising Association (VEA).
“Eurobest is the biggest advertising award in Europe, but it never had a physical home until 2008, when we were in Stockholm,” said Philip Thomas, CEO of Eurobest. “Whenever I said we going to Stockholm, people asked: ‘Why?’ There are many good reasons, and when I’d explained, they always understood,” added Thomas. “When I tell people I’m coming to Amsterdam, no-one ever asks why? They immediately understand that this is a creative city.”
The Eurobest Awards now has ten sections with the addition of Design and separate awards for Sales Promotion and Direct, in addition to the existing sections of TV/Cinema, Print, Outdoor, Direct and Sales Promotion, Media, Interactive, Radio and Integrated. Alderperson Caroline Gehrels, said the city was proud to have Eurobest come, “but we’re proud of our people, the ones who make this city what it is. That’s why Amsterdam is so special, why it’s so ‘hot and happening.’”
“Amsterdam is a fantastically creative centre,” said Thomas, “and we feel very welcomed by the industry – the fact that so many people have turned up just to celebrate something that will not actually be happening for another six months is testimony to that!
“I’m confident people will flock to Amsterdam from all over Europe and all over the world in November.”
