Amsterdam: a popular location for tech events

Amsterdam is an ideal conference destination, hosting many world-class conventions, events and trade fairs every year. This year is no different, seeing developers, founders and tech leaders converge at numerous exciting events – see below for a list of highlights.

AMSxTech Conference, 31 March

Taking place at the Tobacco Theater in the centre of the city, AMSxTech is a one-day technology conference for everyone who works with tech, coding, design or startups. The programme includes talks by local and international speakers, and attendees can learn from as well as socialise with the best and brightest minds from the industry. Topics include entrepreneurship, venture capital, the future of interfaces and Amsterdam’s efforts for retaining the city’s international attraction.

Digital Marketing World Forum Expo Europe, 3-4 April

The Digital Marketing World Forum showcases the latest developments in digital marketing technologies and strategy, virtual reality, AI, e-commerce, data analytics, mobile marketing and more, with sessions exploring a variety of topics within these wider themes. The programme also includes case-study-led content, interactive debates and opportunities for networking. It takes place at the venerable Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam’s city centre, right by Dam square.

VEED Festival, 5-8 April

For no less than four days, the VEED Festival transforms Amsterdam’s Westergasfabriek into a haven for YouTubers, vloggers and other video creators. Plenty of stars in their field will be present – and there’s there’s the Fan Day for those eager to meet them. In addition, expect the VEED Awards, a surprise concert and party and much more.

VidCon Europe, 8-9 April

The VidCon Europe conference provides insights into fresh developments and forecasts in online video, with topics including the YouTube algorithm, building sustainable business models, new digital video platforms and storytelling in virtual reality.

Uprise Festival, 20 April

True to its name, this Amsterdam-born event is less dry business conference and more inspiring gathering. As they say at the Uprise Festival, “putting people first and technology second.” The festival’s marketplace features 2,200 square metres jam-packed with hot startups presenting their products or service, looking for feedback, new staff and new partners. A pitch battle is also on the programme, and there are six stages with themes such as designed experience, fintech & intrapreneurship, ecosystems and culture & new recruitment. Lastly, Uprise places great importance on creating the right environment for easy-going networking, with drinks, music, food trucks and generally a festival atmosphere.

React Amsterdam, 21 April

The one-day conference React Amsterdam is dedicated to the eponymous open-source library for building user interfaces. Front-end developers from across the globe will gather for talks, demos and networking. For those wanting to get up to speed for the conference, there are two workshops scheduled for the day before.

The Next Web Amsterdam conference, 18-19 May

One of Amsterdam’s most important tech and startup events, the TNW conference is an annual fixture in the calendar. Big, yet intimate is the motto as tech leaders, entrepreneurs, developers, managers, CEOs and policymakers gather to share ideas and exchange business cards in a setting that’s meant to resemble a music festival more than a conference.

Codemotion, 16-17 May

Codemotion, a large-scale tech conference for software developers, returns to Amsterdam for a second year. The programme boasts more than 60 talks and five parallel tracks addressing the hottest issues for software developers today: front-end/back-end, mobile, big data/cloud and more. The conference also includes a startup showcase, where promising tech startups can grab the opportunity to enrol top developers and present their product to developers, engineers and international companies.
