Amsterdam a prime festival location
Amsterdam can look forward to another new technology event: the Nerderlands festival will take place from 15-21 August. The event will combine fun and technology for engineers, developers, and designers from around the world.
Nerderlands is organised by Amsterdam's leading tech communities, together with local startups and international companies. This inaugural edition of Nerderlands is a co-production of Appsterdam and StartupAmsterdam, a public-private action programme that aims at accelerating Amsterdam as startup city.
Nerderlands will create a relaxed environment for people to mingle and meet. It is an open-source concept, meaning that all Amsterdam-based tech communities are invited to add their event to the schedule.
Workshops, meetups and BBQs
The festival will combine the small scale of an intimate gathering with the scope offered by the many events that together form the larger festival, said Mike Lee, the mayor of Appsterdam. Events of all sizes will take place at venues throughout the city, and are designed to let tech professionals meet, exchange ideas, and have fun.
Nerderlands will be offering a very wide range of gatherings, such as meetups, workshops, and masterclasses. Groups that are participating include the Amsterdam Maker Festival and many others. Example events include a look behind Uber's software architecture and a lecture about flying robots by Eddie Codel, the founder of the Flying Robot International Film Festival. There will also be a workshop on data-driven storytelling, where 25 techies and 25 journalists will team up for a data visualization challenge. And with the summer still in full swing, the festival will offer many barbecues. The Big Android BBQ, for example, is a multi-day conference for Android developers, held at the Casa 400 hotel and conference centre in Amsterdam.
