Netflix is to record part of the new season of the hit series 'Sense8' in Amsterdam in 2016. The recordings will take place for about two weeks in the summer months, at various locations in Amsterdam. The municipality is pleased that the efforts, which started in 2010 have benefited the film and television sector in the city and film and broadcasting producers have noticed this aboard too. In 2015, shooting for another Netflix original, 'Trailer Park Boys' already took place in Amsterdam.

Grant Hill, J. Michael Straczynski and the Wachowski’s, known for, among other things, ‘The Matrix’, and more recent, ‘Jupiter ascending’, will be directing the series. They will use Amsterdam as a means of production for their recordings. Amsterdam crew, cast, and companies related to the film industry (hotels, rental companies) will benefit from the presence of this big Netflix production in the city.

For the sixth consecutive year, Amsterdam has seen a strong increase in the number of shooting days, to more than 2000 days in 2015. The increase in the number of foreign TV productions for 2016 is striking, with requests for filming coming from China, Thailand, the United States, Egypt, Canada and Malaysia, in addition to many European countries. It is expected that by the end of 2016 there will be an increase in the number of shooting days again, both under the influence of an increased global demand for content and an increase in (inter)national financing possibilities.
