Amsterdam music scene expands with Abbey Road

The Abbey Road Institute, which trains students in musical production and the music business, is opening in Amsterdam. At their new state-of-the-art studio facility, students will follow a one-year programme that combines lessons in music production, sound engineering and the music business. The first group of students is set to begin on 26 September.

The school is located in Amsterdam’s Q-Factory, one of Europe's largest music centres, which houses a variety of music-related companies and spaces, including rehearsal rooms and concert halls.

Abbey Road’s Amsterdam location will be the first on mainland Europe to offer the programme in English, which makes it very attractive to international applicants. The institute currently has locations in the UK, Germany, France and Australia.

New generation of music producers in Amsterdam

“We believe this course offers a new approach to music-production education to train a new generation of audio professionals,” said Jasper Derksen, the manager of the Abbey Road Institute Amsterdam. “It covers the full spectrum of everything you need to master to become a music producer and engineer, ready for today's evolving industry.”

Abbey Road Studios in London has recorded music by many of the world’s leading artists, most famously The Beatles. Other major artists to have recorded there include Pink Floyd, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Kanye West and Adele.

Amsterdam offering new programmes that reflect the new economy

Abbey Road is not the only private educational institute to choose for Amsterdam. Other training programmes have also recognised Amsterdam’s pioneering role in meeting the new demands of a changing economy. These include the New York Film Academy, the trend-watching programme Trendacademy, the New York Code + Design Academy (NYCDA) and the Team Academy programme for entrepreneurs. These institutes will soon be joined by a new Amsterdam branch of the Confucius Institute, an international organisation that offers a wide range of courses in Chinese language and culture.
