Dutch debut for a renowned hotel chain
The new Amsterdam W Hotel is scheduled to open in autumn 2015 and will be located on the prestigious Dam Square in the heart of Amsterdam, behind the Royal Palace.
In a press statement Michael Wale, president of Starwood Hotels & Resorts for Europe, Africa and the Middle East, comments: “The vibrancy and energy of Amsterdam combined with its strong cultural offering makes the perfect backdrop for the W brand, which will bring a new style of modern luxury to the Dutch hotel scene.”
The Amsterdam W Hotel will feature 169 guest rooms, including ten suites and one “Extreme Wow Suite”, the W brand’s version of the presidential suite. Turning traditional hotel models upside down, upon entering the hotel, guests will go directly to the rooftop, where they can check-in and enjoy a cocktail in the W Living Room, a reinterpretation of the hotel lobby. Guests and locals alike will be welcomed at W Amsterdam’s rooftop restaurant and destination bar, which will provide unrivalled views over Dam Square. The hotel will also incorporate four ultra-modern meeting and event spaces (totalling 480 m2), a fitness centre and 24-hour business centre.
Amsterdam is a hotspot for investors in the hotel industry
Hotel chains such as Starwood select Amsterdam as a location for new hotels in mainland Europe because of the many opportunities the city has to offer international hotel developers. The demand for hotel rooms in the city in the coming years is expected to increase an average of 4% per year. To meet this demand, the City of Amsterdam is working to add thousands of new hotel rooms by 2015.
