Smart Cities collaboration with Amsterdam

While in San Francisco, Mayor van der Laan signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Cisco to jointly develop and implement a long-term 'Internet of Everything' strategy for the city, connecting people, processes, data and things. This agreement further strengthens the successful 10-year partnership between Cisco and Amsterdam, which has resulted in citywide optical fibre for the home, a Smart Grid, Smart Work Centers and Public TelePresence capabilities. Cisco announced the news on their blog and Amsterdam received recognition in the US media.

Big Apple results

In New York, Mayor van der Laan and Vice Mayor Gehrels attended several seminars and events on the historic clipper ship Stad Amsterdam, which had docked in New York for the occasion. One of these events was the grand opening of the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) in New York. On their website, the AMS-IX published a video of the event.

In Brooklyn, Mayor van der Laan and Borough president Adams talked about opportunities for collaboration between Amsterdam and Brooklyn. Local news media were keen to share news of the visit.
