Making a mark on international broadcast schedules

Founded in 1996, Absolutely Independent has a catalogue of more than 125 produced formats and 25 paper formats, including Find My Family, The Exit List, The Phone, Family Dinner, Who Am I? and Behind Closed Doors, along with a global network and one of the most recognised brands in the international formats industry. Under the deal, this portfolio will be merged with Nordic World to create a distribution hub for premium content from independent producers from around the world.

The companies announced the deal in a press statement. Espen Huseby, CEO of Nordic World, said: “Absolutely Independent is the dream match for Nordic World. We both share a commitment to long-term relationships and the belief that the only real measure of success is the success of our producer and broadcaster clients.”

Blossoming creative industry

The news about this acquisition comes shortly after Warner Bros showed interest in the Amsterdam-based production company Eyeworks. Both companies are currently in discussions about a possible takeover by the American entertainment giant.

The creative media sector is certainly blossoming here and this is combined with an exceptional ICT infrastructure. The fact that the Amsterdam Metrpolitan Area is home to almost 100 companies directly or indirectly involved in designing and developing online, mobile or serious games certainly has a spill-over effect on the development of television concepts. Many producers are also experimenting with the integration of social media into new TV formats.
