Construction is already underway and the new hotel, featuring 478 rooms and approximately 4000 square metres of conference space, is set to open in 2016.
Amsterdam attractive for leisure and business segments
The Israeli investor and developer Omnam Investment Group has acquired the building from the previous owners, the German fund Europe 1. The real estate services company Colliers International facilitated the transaction and announced the news in a press release. The Rezidor Hotel Group, part of Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, will operate the new hotel.
Wolfgang Neuman, CEO of the Rezidor Hotel Group, comments: “Amsterdam is the third most important hotel market in Europe and is very attractive for both the leisure and business market segments and therefore a focus market for Rezidor. The new Park Inn is situated on a beautiful location in Amsterdam West, close to Schiphol Airport as well as to the city centre. It is therefore highly suitable for conferences and meetings. This hotel will further strengthen our position in the Benelux.”
To transform the former office into a breathtaking new hotel, the famous Dutch design firm Moooi, led by Marcel Wanders, has taken the challenge to redesign the building into one of the most attractive meeting and conference locations in town. The hotel aims to satisfy every guest’s needs with an all-day restaurant, an entertainment centre, a lobby bar, a gym and approximately 500 parking places.
A new lease of life
The conversion of ‘The Dam’ into a trend-setting hotel is one of Amsterdam’s many success stories featuring a transformation of vacant offices into residential properties, hotels and healthcare facilities. In 2013, more than 80,000 square metres of vacant office space in the city were repurposed and at the end of this year, nearly 150,000 square metres of former commercial space is expected to have been given a new lease of life.
