A mixed-use programme in central Amsterdam

The municipality of Amsterdam has selected MVRDV and OVG Real Estate to develop the P15 Ravel plot in the Zuidas district. The site is located on Beethovenstraat, next to the ABN AMRO headquarters.

The project has been designed to offer a mixed programme of offices, residences, and public amenities. It will have a total floor area of between 50,000 and 75,000 square meters, and construction will begin in 2017.

Designed by the architectural firm MVRDV, the new Ravel Plaza will consist of three conjoined buildings of varying heights, with flat glass-encased spaces contrasted by the jutting exterior of foliage-covered apartments. A number of possible tenants for the offices and other commercial spaces have already been involved in the project.

Unique and accessible

As Coen van Oostrom, the CEO of OVG Real Estate, said, “With this project we want to add an innovative building to an increasingly popular part of Amsterdam.” The building complex will enjoy recognition internationally, he said, and will also contribute to a high-quality, sustainable, and innovative living and working environment locally.

Amsterdam City Council's Klaas de Boer, the director of the Zuidas district, said (Dutch-language site) that the “bold and distinctive” Ravel Plaza will mark a turning point in the development of Zuidas into a mixed-use area.

"The houses have bay windows with beautiful views and large balconies with lots of vegetation, turning the whole building into a kind of village green," said MVRDV co-founder and director Winy Maas. “We combine the quality of living in a green environment with the central location and the excitement of an urban environment in this unique location.”
