From hospital to hotel
The Hyatt Regency will be located in the building of the Emma Kinderziekenhuis (a former children’s hospital), within walking distance of some of Amsterdam’s most famous museums and Artis Royal Zoo. The hotel – which will be the first Hyatt Regency in the Netherlands – will offer 211 rooms and 15 suites. Of course, guests can expect to find all facilities that belong in a 5-star hotel, such as a spa, fitness centre, meeting rooms and an exquisite restaurant.
Andaz Prinsengracht Hotel
The Hyatt Regency will be the second Hyatt hotel in Amsterdam. In October 2012, the Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht Hotel officially opened to the public. With the opening of this new hotel in the historic centre, Amsterdam became only the ninth city in the world to host an Andaz Hotel – the first in continental Europe. Andaz is one of eight different hotel brands operated by the internationally-renowned Hyatt chain. The Andaz boutique hotel in Amsterdam offers 117 rooms and five suites, all designed by Marcel Wanders, an internationally successful Dutch designer.
Hotel chains like Hyatt select Amsterdam as a location for new hotels because of the many opportunities it has to offer international hotel developers. In 2014, the legendary Waldorf Astoria is set to open a 94-room hotel on the prestigious Herengracht canal. Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development for Europe and Africa Hilton Worldwide: “Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts are experiencing great growth momentum in Europe and Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will be an exceptional addition to our luxury portfolio. We are particularly pleased to see growth in Amsterdam, which is one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations.”
The demand for hotel rooms in the city in the coming years is expected to increase on average by 4% per year. To meet this demand, the City of Amsterdam is working to add thousands of new hotel rooms by 2015.
