Leading event in the gaming industry

The Casual Connect Event is the main event for professionals in the casual gaming field and is produced by the Casual Games Association. Previous editions have taken place in San Francisco and Kiev but this year, it was Amsterdam’s turn to host the event. Renowned gaming companies such as Spilgames, Big Fish and Everyplay offered participants the latest insights and expertise in several speeches. During the event, a new investment fund to encourage growth in the Dutch gaming sector was also announced. Titled GameOn and funded by experts and investors in the gaming sector, the goal is to further increase growth, especially in the realm of online and mobile gaming. The Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency will also work alongside the GameOn fund in the area of strategic acquisition.

Amsterdam is a gaming hotspot

The fact that Amsterdam is hosting an event of such an outstanding international reputation illustrates its position as a hotspot for companies in the gaming industry. Brands such as Guerrilla Games, GREE, DeNA and Perfect World have set up their offices in Amsterdam. In terms of consumer spend, the Dutch gaming market was estimated at €626 million in 2010 and was expected to reach €805 million by the end of 2013, with social, mobile and portal gaming making up €189 million.

More than 50 gaming companies are based in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, such as Guerrilla Games, Vanguard Games, Little Chicken Game Company and Spel-Maker. The majority of these companies produce several types of games, targeting multiple platforms.
