A new hub for innovative, science-based start-ups, the ACE Venture Lab has already been the subject of positive coverage in local media such as the Noordhollands Dagblad (in Dutch). From the Lab located on the Amsterdam Science Park, promising start-ups can participate in a Bootcamp, enter into a mentoring programme and make use of the facilities on site. The ACE Venture Lab is a prime example of one of the many ways in which Amsterdam facilitates the growth and commercialisation of great ideas from local talent.
Science Park Amsterdam
A knowledge hub in Amsterdam, the Science Park Amsterdam has become a popular location for start-ups to establish operations, meet new contacts and find collaborators. The Science Park recently expanded with the opening of Matrix VI, a new business complex intended primarily for companies in the Life Sciences sector. In March 2013, the first businesses moved into the newly developed building, which provides both modern office spaces and laboratories.
Vibrant start-up hub
Numerous leading figures in the sector have praised Amsterdam as a vibrant start-up hub. For example, entrepreneur and Silicon Valley veteran Dan Harple noted that Amsterdam is a hotspot for internet start-ups. He described the start-up scene in Amsterdam as “cutting edge” and “state of the art”, even going so far as to say that in comparison with Berlin and London, Amsterdam “rocks”.
