Engineering Seismology Group Canada Inc (ESG)
Canadian microseismic energy monitoring firm ESG established its first European office in Amsterdam on 1 September 2010. With over 25 years of experience, ESG supplies industry-leading microseismic monitoring instrumentation, software and services to a variety of different markets including hydraulic fracturing, long-term reservoir monitoring, CO2 sequestration, gas and waste storage, underground & open-pit mining and geotechnical applications. ESG is the only microseismic monitoring company to serve this diverse group of markets.
European expansion
Andy Higgs, head of European Business Development for ESG explains that, "ESG has nearly doubled in size each year for the past three years. It became clear that in order to maintain this pace of expansion, we needed to look beyond North America. Europe has a strong market for gas storage and cyclic steam stimulation operations, two applications in which we specialise in monitoring for microseismicity."
The company has extensive experience in microseismic monitoring for mining and energy industries and is uniquely positioned to provide technical assistance in the development of unconventional gas plays and the solution mined gas storage market. Both are anticipated to be growth areas in the next few years. With the opening of ESG's office in Amsterdam, the company will hire a geophysicist to service clients throughout Europe and Scandinavia.
Amsterdam: the obvious choice
Why did ESG choose Amsterdam? In a press statement, Andy Higgs announced that: "Amsterdam was an obvious choice for us. It has excellent air and rail connections, is multilingual, business friendly and is home to two of our biggest clients. We hope that our presence in Amsterdam demonstrates that ESG Solutions sees Europe as an important market and key to our plans for expansion."
