New subsidy scheme for recharge point installation

To encourage the use of electric vehicles, the City of Amsterdam has introduced a new subsidy scheme for the installation of recharging points for electric cars. The scheme aims to encourage local companies to install a recharging point on private premises accessible to the public (e.g. parking lots).

Green future

Recharge subsidy scheme in Amsterdam

A budget of 500,000 euros has been allocated by the City of Amsterdam for the subsidy scheme. The scheme went into force on 31 October 2011 and it will end, when the entire budget is spent.

The aim of the scheme is to encourage the use of electric vehicles and to improve the air quality in Amsterdam. More information about the scheme and how to apply can be found here (in Dutch).

Electric transport

The City of Amsterdam has ambitious environmental targets and plans to have 10,000 electric vehicles in the city by 2015. There are already about 100 publicly accessible charging points; making Amsterdam a European trendsetter in the introduction of electric mobility.

Serious about sustainability

Previous subsidy schemes to encourage the use of electric modes of transportation have already proven to be a success. In 2010, the City of Amsterdam set aside a budget of 3 million euros for a subsidy scheme reimbursing businesses in Amsterdam up to 50% of the additional cost of purchasing an electric vehicle. These funds have enabled local businesses to purchase 260 new electric vehicles - setting a clear marker that the city is intent on becoming a green transportation hub.
