BSH has chosen the first cradle-to-cradle (C2C) business park in the Netherlands, in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, for its new office location.
BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH is a joint venture between Robert Bosch GmbH and Siemens AG. The company is among the world’s leading manufacturers of home appliances.
The new building, located in Park 20/20 in Hoofddorp, which resides in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, which is part of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, is truly unique because it is one of the few offices that is built according to the C2C principles - as defined by the German-American duo Michael Braungart and William McDonough.
Environmentally conscious initiatives are also figuring prominently elsewhere in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. Amstelveen produced Europe’s first sustainable office building, and Almere will soon unveil the first sustainable supermarket. In fact, Almere, the fastest-growing city in Europe, has embraced the C2C principle as the basis for all further urban development.
As an architect, McDonough was involved in realising the sustainable ambitions of Haarlemmermeer by designing the new BSH office. "A total of 114,000m2 of premises will be built according to the C2C concept," says developer Kees Noorman of Delta Development Group. "That will make it Europe’s largest sustainable business area so far."
BSH expects to move into the new office in the fourth quarter of 2011.
