The Regional Competitiveness Index of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre has declared the Netherlands as the most competitive country in the European Union.
The Regional Competitiveness Index measures important factors which contribute to the high ranking of Dutch regions such as: macro-economic stability, infrastructure, quality of education, innovation and entrepreneurship. Dutch regions such as Utrecht and Noord-Holland (Amsterdam is part of this region) scored slightly higher than Paris and London regions.
The competitiveness of the Netherlands and the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area is obvious when you consider its popularity as a location for international business.
Last year, the Amsterdam Area welcomed 122 new international companies; 29 of these are active in the financial industry.
