According to Transparency International’s 2011 Bribe Payers Index, companies from the Netherlands and Switzerland are seen as least likely to bribe when doing business. The index ranks 28 leading international and regional exporting countries by the likelihood of their firms to bribe abroad.
This index is the result of a survey of 3,000 business executives from developed and developing countries. According to the research, companies from Russia and China are seen as most likely to engage in bribing.
The fact that the corporate community perceives the Netherlands as one of the least corrupt countries in the world, illustrates the friendly business climate here.
Earlier research from Forbes Magazine also identified the Netherlands as one of the best countries for business. Forbes ranked 134 different countries according to their attractiveness for American companies to do business with.
The magazine looked at 11 different factors including: property rights, innovation, taxes, technology, corruption, freedom, red tape, investor protection and stock market performance. The Netherlands ranked 15th.
