The Netherlands is one of the most affluent countries in the European Union. In 2010, the Netherlands was adjudged to have the second-highest level of prosperity in the EU, surpassed only by Luxemburg.
According to Eurostat, the Dutch GDP per capita is 33% higher than the average in the EU. Following on from a similar result in 2009, this makes the Netherlands an important gateway for international companies attempting to reach attractive customer markets within Europe and beyond.
Many international companies also regard the Netherlands as an attractive test market to enter the European continent. The Dutch are known to be early adapters and because of the relatively small home market, the business results are easy to assess.
