On 9 September 2011, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol re-opened departure lounge three. In a press release it states that the departure lounge has been completely restyled and in doing so travellers can now experience the "exciting synergy between Dutch tradition and international flair ."
Some 5.3 million passengers pass through the departure lounges of Schiphol annually. The new lounge will offer travellers plenty of opportunities for shopping, eating and entertainment.
The lounge offers 26 shops including international brands such as Burberry, Hermès and the first European branch of Victoria's Secret. A true visual highlight is the ’House of Tulips’ - a flower shop with a green glasshouse suspended above. Its prominent design incorporates two Dutch icons: the typical Amsterdam townhouse façade and a greenhouse.
When renovating the lounge, special attention was paid to sustainability. Throughout the lounge LED lights are used instead of more traditional, less sustainable means of lighting.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol already boasts a wide range of duty-free shops, fine dining facilities and a casino. In May 2011, Princess Irene of the Netherlands also opened the world’s first airport park. With this renovation complete, Schiphol airport has increased the number of innovative ways in which it offers its passengers superior service.
