In spite of Iceland’s volcanic ash and the aftermath of the financial crisis, 2010 was a successful year for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Transport increased by 3.8% to 45.2 million passengers and cargo by 16.1% to 1.5 million tons.
The president and CEO of the Schiphol Group, Jos Nijhuis, provided this information at a New Year’s reception on 3 January 2011. Nijhuis expects the recovery to continue this year.
The 2010 results demonstrate the airport’s resilience which make it one of the most important airports in Europe.
Rankings for 2010 are not yet known, but in 2009 Schiphol was the third largest European airport in terms of cargo (1.3 million tonnes) and fifth in terms of passenger numbers (43.6 million passengers).
