Business as usual at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

Just as the majority of Europe, the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area has received record amounts of snow this winter.

No closures due to snowfall

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

While airports in most neighbouring countries closed due to heavy snowfall, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol remained open. Thanks to its ‘snow team’, the airport was able to deal with challenging weather conditions.

Trained during the summer months, the snow team is fully committed to keeping the airport in service. The team consists of 450 people and is responsible for de-icing the runways. With an impressive fleet of vehicles and shovels, the team is able to clear an entire runway of snow and ice within twenty minutes.

Other countries often hire external companies to de-ice the runway, which does not always yield the desired results.

International hub

One of Europe's busiest, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol provides 270 flight connections to airports in 92 countries with 104 different airlines from all over the world.
