Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has topped the world rankings as the best airport to shop, according to ShermansTravel, a US-based magazine and provider of travel advice.
ShermansTravel notes that Schiphol is a place where travellers won’t find themselves bored as they wait to take off. The airport drew particular praise for being the first in the world to host a library.
For a very different atmosphere, passengers who’re feeling lucky can visit the fully-fledged casino, while those craving the grandeur of Dutch masterpieces can drop into the Schiphol branch of the prestigious Rijksmuseum for free.
On top of that, the airport is equipped with a large variety of shops, where passengers can buy everything required for their journey and beyond.
Schiphol has an impressively full trophy case, reflecting the international appreciation of the airport’s services. Amongst others, it has received the award for Best European Airport in the British Business Traveller Awards on 21 occasions.
The airport is also an important gateway to Europe. From the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, the rest of the world is never far away. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is centrally located, approximately two hours flying time from all crucial business destinations in Europe.
Around 106 scheduled airlines operate flight services from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to 301 destinations worldwide. The airport ranks as one of Europe's four major hubs, and is one of the two principal home bases to Air France-KLM and the SkyTeam alliance.
