Amsterdam Airport Schiphol won the Routes Airport Marketing Award in the category Western Europe at the Routes Europe 2011 conference in Cagliari (Sardinia) on 9 May 2011. Airlines gathered at the Routes Airport Marketing Award ceremony voted Schiphol as the airport that staged the most impressive marketing efforts in the past year.
The Routes Airport Marketing Award acknowledges excellence in air service development as recognised by airlines.
Airports that have a large number of airlines represented are more attractive to passengers since more airlines often translates into a larger and more varied number of destinations.
In terms of variety of destinations, Schiphol has high standards. In 2010, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol provided direct connections to 301 European and intercontinental airports in 99 countries. With over 45 million passengers, it ranks as Europe’s 5th largest passenger airport.
Skytrax, a consultancy which conducts research into the quality of civil aviation, recently awarded Schiphol with the Skytrax award for Western Europe’s best airport, one of the many prizes given to the airport in recent years.
