Executive Travel Magazine, a magazine published by American Express in the United States, has awarded Amsterdam Airport Schiphol its Leading Edge Award for the third time. The airport was previously acknowledged in 2008 and 2009.
The award from Executive Travel Magazine recognises Schiphol as best international airport, as voted for by readers of the magazine. Criteria included qualities such as leadership, customer orientation and vision. Further information about the award can be found in this announcement.
The award recognises the airport’s importance in making the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area Europe’s gateway for business travellers. Schiphol is Europe’s fifth largest airport and the world’s 15th largest in terms of total passenger traffic. It ranks as the world’s sixth largest airport in terms of international passenger traffic. Six airlines currently operate routes between Schiphol and the United States: KLM, Delta Air Lines, Continental Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and ArkeFly.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol directly serves over 300 European and intercontinental destinations and offers travellers plenty of products and services. The airport boasts a wide range of duty-free shops, fine dining facilities, health and beauty services, accommodation, a casino and, in May 2011, Princess Irene of the Netherlands opened the world’s first airport park – yet another example of Schiphol’s ever evolving services.
Another major plus for international travellers is that practically every employee at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol speaks English. This advantage is not only limited to the airport, as the entire Amsterdam Metropolitan Area is known for its international mindset.
