Amsterdam Airport Schiphol adds another prize to its impressive trophy case. British business travellers have awarded Amsterdam Airport Schiphol with the Business Traveller Award in the category “Best Airport in Europe 2010.”
This is the 21st time that Schiphol has won this prestigious award. Coen Reinders, a member of Schiphol Group Management Team, received accolades during the Business Traveller Awards ceremony held in London on Monday, 20 September. The other nominees were London Heathrow Airport, Munich Airport and Zurich Airport.
With over 3.1 million passengers from Great Britain travelling via Schiphol in the first six months of 2010 alone, Great Britain is the most important market for Schiphol, second to its home market.
"We are extremely proud that British business travellers have honoured us with this award. In light of our ambition to become Europe's preferred airport, we aim to continuously optimise the travel process and introduce innovative applications. In August we opened the redesigned Holland Boulevard, which offers passengers a pleasurable stay, enables them to become re-energised as well as enjoy Dutch art, culture and literature. Passengers can read a book and listen to music in the Airport Library, the world's first library at an airport," said Reinders.
Recognition from business travellers reflects the importance of Schiphol as a gateway to Europe. From the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, the rest of the world is never far away. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is centrally located, approximately two hours flying time from all crucial business destinations in Europe. More than 90 airlines operate out of Schiphol, offering flights to 265 destinations across the world. It is the third largest European airport for cargo and the fourth largest European airport in terms of passenger numbers.
