Dubai-based luxury airline Emirates has opened a sales office at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The airline opened its Emirates Airline Store on 12 January 2011.
Emirates has operated flights from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Dubai on a daily basis since 2010 and is planning to further strengthen its network in Europe.
Unlike many other airlines, Emirates is not part of an alliance such as Air France and KLM. Many passengers fly with Emirates to intercontinental destinations such as Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Emirates’ new Amsterdam base was opened by its senior vice president, Mr. Salem Obaidalla, who told the Dutch newspaper, Het Parool, that he is “very satisfied” with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and based on future developments Emirates may decide to expand.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is one of Europe’s main airports with 92 airlines serving over 260 destinations worldwide. In terms of cargo, Schiphol ranks as the third largest airport in Europe and fifth in terms of number of passenger operations.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has received many rewards for its innovative way of servicing passengers. For example, Schiphol is the first airport in the world to use a robot to load baggage containers. It is also the first airport on the European mainland to have tax free shops. It is no surprise that Schiphol is a consistent winner of the Business Traveller Award and the OAG-Routes Airport Marketing Award.
