Terremark Worldwide, a global supplier of IT infrastructure services, has selected Amsterdam Airport Schiphol as the location for its new data centre. Terremark plans to move into its new office by the end of 2010.
Terremark operates data centres in the United States, South America and Europe. At Schiphol, Terremark will take advantage of the excellent digital infrastructure the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area has in place.
The company plans to partner with Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX), the world’s largest and most stable digital exchange platform, known for its superior quality and low cost.
The scale of Terremark's current operations in the Netherlands is modest. However, they plan to expand in the Netherlands and Europe and will build a new data centre at the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Terremark follows the example of many other ICT companies as the Amsterdam area becomes the software and IT capital of Europe; 60 percent of the Forbes 2000 companies active in ICT have an office in the area.
"Schiphol is a major European hub and a very strategic and strong business location, with an extensive network of destinations. We're delighted to be able to further expand our IT activities at this hub, close to our customers in the Netherlands and other European countries," says Manuel D. Medina, CEO of Terremark Worldwide Inc.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol welcomes Terremark's decisions. "Terremark's team in the Netherlands has a long-standing reputation for providing superior products and services to some of Europe's most important companies," said Maarten de Groof, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Schiphol Group. "Terremark now decides to extend its presence in Europe and the Netherlands and provide its suite of services from this new, state-of-the-art facility within Amsterdam Airport Schiphol area that houses more than 500 international oriented companies."
