American provider of global data centre services Equinix Inc. has completed the construction of a second data centre in Amsterdam. This is their fourth International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre in the Netherlands (AM2). Data centres provide businesses with a location to reliably run their operations and securely exchange information.
Cysco, one of the first Internet Services Providers (ISP) in the Netherlands, has moved its data centre operations into the state-of-the-art Equinix AM2 IBX data centre in Amsterdam, expanding its operations to include cloud services.
The new data centre is adjacent to the existing Equinix AM1 data centre in the South East of Amsterdam.
This is a strategic location due to its proximity to the Amsterdam internet hub AMS-IX, the largest data transport hub in the world, known for its superior quality and low cost.
It is therefore no surprise that the Netherlands is the second most densely cabled country in the world. The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area is rapidly becoming the software and IT capital of Europe. Of all the Forbes 2,000 companies active in ICT, more than 50% have an office in the Amsterdam Area.
