App designers from all over the globe gathered in Amsterdam on the 25 and 26 June 2011 to share ideas and develop new mobile applications at one of the Appsterdam summer events.
Mike Lee is the organiser of the Appsterdam initiative, and is the co-founder of Tapoulous, a company that created one of the first successful iPhone games (Tap Tap Revenge).
After Lee left Tapoulous, he travelled extensively and came to the conclusion that Amsterdam is the most liveable city in the world. ‘’I realised a whole world of app makers were looking for a place to settle down... so why not Amsterdam!”
Mike Lee discovered that for software developers, Amsterdam is the perfect alternative to Silicon Valley. As well as providing great quality of life, the city is still affordable. Moreover, the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area is home to a very well developed creative industry and has an excellent digital infrastructure that draws many ICT firms to the area.
