British City Inn to open in Amsterdam

British hotel chain City Inn has chosen Amsterdam’s Oosterdokseiland as their first location on mainland Europe. The opening is expected to take place in March 2011 and is a significant milestone in the development of Oosterdokseiland (ODE).

Largest British investment in the last five years

City Inn Amsterdam cost more than 100 million euros and is the largest British investment in the city in the last five years.

The new 553-room hotel will be an important eye-catcher on Oosterdokseiland in Amsterdam, currently going under major redevelopment. Several buildings, such as the Amsterdam Conservatory and the headquarters of TomTom, have been developed and are currently occupied.

Important step

Amsterdam benefits from the new City Inn hotel, but it is also a significant milestone for the independent British hotel chain. It is the first international development of City Inn hotels on mainland Europe.

David Orr, Chief Executive and joint founder of City Inn comments, “We are proud and delighted to have taken the first step in our strategy of developing City Inn hotels in prime international city centres.”

Business opportunities

City Inn selected Amsterdam to be their first location on mainland Europe because of the many opportunities it has to offer international hotel developers. The demand for hotel rooms in the coming years will rise an average of 4% per year. To meet this demand, the City of Amsterdam would like to add thousands of new hotel rooms by 2015.

Hotel Development Intermediary

To assist entrepreneurs with their development plans, Amsterdam has appointed a Hotel Development Intermediary serving as a central point of entry and guide in realising your plans. Please don't hesitate to contact if you are considering setting up a new hotel in Amsterdam.
