CitizenM expands

CitizenM, Amsterdam’s successful hotel chain expands. On 9 September 2010, CitizenM officially opened the doors of its first property outside Amsterdam, in the very heart of Glasgow’s city centre. This is the first step in a major campaign to expand CitizenM worldwide to new urban destinations.

New locations

CitizenM

CitizenM plans to open hotels in London and New York City within the next two years. With the opening of its new hotel in Glasgow, CitizenM confirmed two sites in London – one on the South Bank, close to the Tate Modern Museum, at the end of next year, and the other opening on Tower Hill in time for the 2012 Olympics. Two new sites were also confirmed in New York – on 50th and Broadway in Times Square and on the Bowery, between Soho and Lower East Side.

Roll-out plans elsewhere continue more rapidly than expected. CitizenM is focused on China and Hong Kong, and actively scouting building sites in Paris, Milan and Zurich.

Amsterdam origins

The Dutch CitizenM formula will prove to be successful in other parts of the word. The hotels have been presented with an award for trendiest hotel in the world from the leading website, Tripadvisor.com. CitizenM is proud of its Amsterdam roots; the concept, design and branding were all developed here. “This is an inspiring place in every way,” says CEO Michael Levie.
