Fonterra, one of the largest exporters of dairy products in the world, moved its European headquarters from Germany to Amsterdam.
Fonterra plans to expand sales in Europe now that Amsterdam is their new base of operation. Key factors in the decision to move to the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area included a favourable business climate, high quality senior staff and proximity to potential partners and customers.
Koert Liekelema, Fonterra’s European director, is quoted in the Financial Times as saying, "We work with taxation and regulation laws to create a successful business environment”.
Amsterdam was selected over London, Paris and Zurich because of lower costs for labour and accommodation. Fonterra opens its new office in Amsterdam South late September 2010.
Fonterra, one of the largest exporters of dairy products in the world, was formed in 2001 when three New Zealand dairy producers merged into one. The company has 11,000 shareholders among New Zealand dairy farmer associations and sales of 5.8 million euros per year.
