Principal Global Investors, an American asset management firm, recently opened an office in Amsterdam. From its new base in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, the firm plans to expand further into Europe.
Principal Global Investors has already expanded significantly within Continental Europe over the past few years and the move into Amsterdam will build on that base.
Nick Lyster, Principal’s European chief executive, said to Financial News the company is seeking possible take-over candidates as part of its expansion plans. Principal currently has approximately $235 billion under management.
Lyster said that Principal is a good fit for the Dutch market and its large number of professional fiduciary managers overseeing big pension funds. Lyster said a specialist manager like Principal can offer a range of equity, bond and real estate funds that clients can assign to existing strategies.
Principal already has fifteen Dutch clients, including pension funds such as PNO Media.
