Other Financial Intermediaries important for credit supply

The share of credit provided by Other Financial Intermediaries (OFI's) has increased both globally and within the Netherlands. According to the Financial Stability Board, the share of OFI financing in the Netherlands is currently one of the highest in the world, behind only the United States and the UK.

Alternative source of financing

Amsterdam means business

The announcement that Other Financial Intermediaries are increasingly providing credit within the Netherlands is welcome news for companies interested in alternative sources of financing. It also illustrates the international importance of Amsterdam as a financial centre.

A strong base

Finance is the most important sector in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, generating approximately 20% of the region’s GDP. Amsterdam is not only a base for many of the world's largest banks, the area is also home to an extremely strong and internationally oriented services sector, with Euronext as Europe’s largest cross-border exchange. There are nearly 60 branches of foreign banks (next to the Dutch institutions) and more than 100 international insurance companies.
