Dutch trust sector is crisis proof

The Netherlands is proving to be a popular location for companies active in the trust sector. Moreover, the Dutch trust sector appears to be crisis proof. These are some of the conclusions of a report carried out by the economic analysts of SEO Economic Research.

Trust hub

Dutch trust sector

In 2009, 155 trust firms (176 in 2011) operated within the Netherlands, serving over 15,000 international clients. Despite the international economic crisis, their turnover is growing. The Netherlands has a long history as a trust hub for numerous reasons. For example:

  • Internationally oriented fiscal legislation, such as an extensive network of tax agreements with other countries.

  • Attractive business structure with experienced and specialised personnel and many related service providers.

According to the report by SEO, factors such as these continue to make the Netherlands a very attractive destination for multinational companies.

Amsterdam financial capital

Within the Netherlands, Amsterdam is the undisputed financial capital and one of the major financial centres in Europe. The Amsterdam Area is home to an extremely strong and internationally oriented services sector, and it's also the base of Euronext, Europe’s largest cross-border exchange. There are nearly 60 branches of foreign banks, alongside Dutch institutions, and more than 100 international insurance companies. The Amsterdam Area hosts hundreds of companies in the fields of legal, accounting, taxation, media, ICT, advertising, venture capital and shared services. All these companies share a pan European mindset and can therefore facilitate European growth from a single location at competitive rates.
