BNP Paribas, one of the largest global banking groups in the world, has announced an extension of its Corporate and Investment Banking network for large Dutch corporations in the Netherlands. The bank opens four regional Business Centres, one of them in Amsterdam.
An additional three regional Business Centres will be located in Rotterdam, Utrecht and Eindhoven. BNP Paribas Netherlands currently services the Dutch wholesale market at a national level from its headquarters in Amsterdam, a major financial centre in Europe.
Finance is the most important sector in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, generating approximately 20% of the region’s GDP. Zuidas, the financial district of Amsterdam, is a magnet for firms operating in the financial sector.
Dutch companies are internationally oriented according to BNP Paribas. The strong international orientation of the financial sector in the Amsterdam Area in particular is evident in:
60 branches of foreign banks and over 100 international insurance companies currently in the Amsterdam Area
Amsterdam is considered an important European city in the Mastercard 2008 index, ranking fourth in Europe and tenth globally
650 pension funds are based in the Amsterdam Area, managing a total of more than 800 billion euros; the region is a hub and centre of expertise for pan-European pension asset management
The Netherlands has the least expensive and most efficient fund transfer system in Europe, and is a centre for international law and accountancy, banking and insurance
44 of the 50 Foreign Bankers’ Association member banks are based in the Amsterdam region
BNP Paribas has been active in The Netherlands for almost 150 years. During this period, the group extended business. The bank’s headquarters and eight subsidiaries are located in the Netherlands, employing 1,500 people, an increase of 30% since early 2008.
