Amsterdam is bursting with creative energy. Advertising agency Weiden+Kennedy (W+K), which has a creativity lab in Amsterdam, has been recognised recently with two awards.
W+K received the prestigious Grand Prix (in the film category) at the Cannes Lions Festival in June 2011. W+K Amsterdam received the award for their Nike ‘Write the Future’ campaign. During the soccer World Cup of 2010 the three-minute commercial featured the world's biggest football stars dreaming of triumphant glory on the field, and ignominy and scorn for failure off it.
The Cannes Lions Festival is held every year in Cannes, France and is regarded as the most prestigious meeting place for creative professionals and the creative industry.
The Nike campaign wasn’t the only campaign created by W+K Amsterdam that received an award at the Cannes Lions Festival this year. They also came home with a gold award for their Heineken commercial.
These awards illustrate the flourishing advertising market in the Amsterdam metropolitan area. With its blend of historical beauty, upbeat new districts, cultural attractions, and top-class modern business facilities, the city can be a daily source of inspiration for expats working in the creative industry.
Proximity to clients is another big plus for advertising agencies that are active in the Amsterdam area. In addition to Dutch, or partially Dutch companies like Shell, Heineken and Unilever, the Netherlands is also home to the international or European headquarters of companies like Adidas and Nike.
