PICNIC has announced the themes for this year's festival: Life, Design, City and Media. PICNIC is a cross-discipline platform for creative conversation and collaboration and will take place from 22-24 September 2010 in Amsterdam.
New York will get a one day taste of Amsterdam's 5th annual PICNIC festival during the PICNIC Salon on 14 June.
The PICNIC Salon in New York was first organised in 2009 as a part of NY 400, a series of special events and activities celebrating the enduring friendship between the Netherlands and the United States and generated a great response.
The PICNIC festival is a yearly three day conference taking place in Amsterdam. It is regarded as "a high-level plenary meeting of bright and creative minds" that brings media entrepreneurs, thinkers and creators together to share their stories with more than 1,000 delegates from all over the world.
Each year the conference focuses on main themes. The themes for 2010 are: Life, Design, City and Media.
Life: The convergence of biology and technology provides us with possibilities that only years ago seemed like science fiction. Self-healing building materials, improved crop yields and sustainable energy sources are just a few examples. How far should we go?
Design: What are the implications of new distribution and production models in the design industry?
City: The constant connectivity of humans, objects and locations have turned cities into enormous data sets. How can we use this information?
Media: The changing role of traditional media continues to be the subject of intense debate. What will be the future of the media industry? Which business models can help the media industry continue to thrive?
More information about the Salon in New York and the festival in Amsterdam can be found on the website of PICNIC.
