Fashionista’s and designers from all over the world will flock to Amsterdam July 13-17, 2011 for the 15th edition of Amsterdam International Fashion Week (AIFW).
New, up-and-coming designers, and those already established in the fashion world will show their latest collections.
The Dutch designers (and sisters) Spijkers & Spijkers will open the AIFW, being held in the Westergasfabriek. Tony Cohen, who used to show his collections exclusively in New York City, is breaking tradition and will now also show at the AIFW.
During the AIFW, commerce and creativity are combined. In addition to the bustling catwalks, a multitude of fashion events, lectures, exhibitions, performances and parties will take place. The second day of the festival is dedicated to showcasing talented, upcoming designers.
Amsterdam is already well known for its designers who make use of sustainable fabrics. For example one designer (Krejci) uses old bicycle tyres to make bags. So, to highlight its green approach the AIFW organisers will, for the second time host the Green Fashion Competition.
On Saturday 16 July expect to see new designers compete by highlighting both sustainable design and their use of sustainable fabrics. Find out more about this unique event by visiting Amsterdam International Fashion Week.
