The Dutch gaming industry is poised to benefit as the global trend towards online and mobile gaming continues to rise, according to a recent Deloitte report.
The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area is home to 51 gaming, developing and publishing companies. The industry is booming with an annual growth rate of 9% and Amsterdam is the hotspot for gaming expansion.
Dutch consumers spent 626 million euros on gaming in 2010, and this is expected to increase to 805 million euros by 2013.
The Amsterdam Area is home to the majority of Dutch gaming companies and numerous foreign companies are also based here. A number of factors contribute to making the Amsterdam Area attractive to these companies, such as:
Multilingual, internationally oriented and highly qualified workforce. More than 80% of the workforce speaks English and approximately 40% has a university degree or higher professional education.
A strong, creative industry and a large number of companies active in the gaming industry.
Companies strong in the development of games. Approximately 60% of all gaming companies in the Amsterdam Area are active in development.
