On 25 November the third edition of a localised and scaled down version of the influential annual TED conference is coming to Amsterdam. TEDxAmsterdam 2011 will be held in the Amsterdam Stadsschouwburg. This grand city theatre will provide the stage for the new ideas of bold thinkers and innovators in the technology, entertainment, design, art, science and business fields. This year’s theme will be ‘Human Nature'.
TED is an annual event where many of the world's leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is comprised of the three broad subject areas that give the event its name and that collectively shape our future.
TEDxAmsterdam is an independently organised TED event which includes TED Talks, video and live speakers. All events are designed to spark in-depth discussions and create networking opportunities.
At TEDxAmsterdam 2011 there will be an impressive line-up of speakers including: Alan McSmith, (the founder of Wilderness Vision, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation of the wild), Joris Luyendijk (a Dutch journalist and non-fiction writer and the moderator of the first TEDxAmsterdam in 2009) and last year’s host and co-founder of Boom Chicago, Pep Rosenfeld will also return as a speaker.
The event itself is already sold out, but people who are interested can watch proceedings on the live stream daily from a dedicated tab on www.nu.nl (video streaming will start a day prior to the main event). Visit the TEDxAmsterdam website for more information.
After a first successful edition in 2010, the TEDxAmsterdamWomen event will take place on 1 December 2011 in the Van Gogh Museum. The central theme of the event will be ‘Heroes’. More on this additional event can be read here (in Dutch).
